Thickspike Wheatgrass

(Agropyron dasystachyum)

Thickspike Wheatgrass is a strongly rhizomatous, cool-season, perennial grass widely distributed throughout the northern parts of the Great Plains and intermountain area. Seedling vigor is excellent, and this grass establishes easily. Streambank Wheatgrass is used chiefly for soil stabilization of disturbed lands including roadsides and minespoils.

Seed can be drilled or broadcast. It should be planted 1.3 to 2.4 cm (½ to 1 in.) deep. Planting dates should be during the two-month period with the most favorable moisture (either spring or fall).
