Timothy

(Phleum Pratense)

 

Timothy is a small-tufted, cool-season, short-lived bunchgrass. It is naturalized in the northern U.S. and mountainous West. Timothy thrives in deep, fertile, loamy, silty and clayey soils. It has a moderately shallow and fibrous root system and is palatable to livestock, whitetail deer and moose.

Seed is small and should be drilled or broadcast no deeper than 1.3 cm (½ in.). Planting dates vary with region, but should coincide with the two-month period of favorable moisture (early spring to late fall).
