Blue Panic
(Panicum antidotale)
Blue Panic is a vigorous, warm-season, perennial bunchgrass with coarse stems. It grows from 122 to 152.5 cm (48 to 72 in.) tall. It produces extensive root systems and forms short thick rhizomes or underground stems. Its top growth resembles Switchgrass. The lower half of the stems have bony internodes giving them a bamboo-like appearance.
Blue Panic is a native of India and Australia. It is used extensively in southern Texas in Rio Grande Valley area, where it is used widely for reseeding in conjunction with root planting. It does especially well in low-lying areas where there is an abundance of moisture.
Blue Panic is a highly palatable grass, which is well liked by most classes of livestock.
